I'm not defending either manufacturer. From my past experience, Ford has come to the party when it comes to warranty, even when one of my PX Rangers was out of warranty, and the transmission was replaced.

Yep Rokwiz I dreamt of the HJ61 but could afford the HJ60 It was slow but dependable...

I've been building things for 25 years now, and having turned the hand to CAD and composite production the last two years, it's a new learning curve, but I'm so glad I have the years of experience of building/machining beforehand to know how to finesse in the construction. While I can now do amazing things I couldn't contemplate before, I've had to use the old school 'pull it apart' method to fix the new equipment from time to time, and to know to to position/combine parts being constructed. They will still require testing for durability.

Certainly a lot of very unhappy owners in that articles comments section.
Even some are saying this engine is worse than the Nissan 3.0 td as used in the Patrol.... Big statement.....

I was stopped at the lights yesterday and I saw a quite new Thailux twin cab ute blowing more white smoke than Puffing Billy...Not the first one I have seen doing this.Also,a guy at work has one of these which was purchased brand new about 2 years ago.He told me cant wait to get rid of it due to constant dpf issues(yes it also regularly leaves a trail of smelly white smoke),loss of power,turbo failure(replaced under warranty),constantly blowing headlight globes,and poor handling/harsh ride.

The Hilux’s are no longer unbreakable like the older one’s just about were.

They are still banking on a reputation of being unbreakable, hence still the number 1 selling vehicle in Australia. Toyotas these days are just ok. Not really class leading in any aspect, and are seriously playing with fire if they dont get this sorted.
It takes many years to forge a good reputation, but it can be lost in a heartbeat. Lets face it, the Ranger is a better truck in every concievable measurement, and breathing down the neck of the Hilux. |

I think you'll find many (underground) mines moving towards DPFs to try and reduce underground emissions.

I’m not exactly sure what happens with the dpf systems themselves in he new crop of vehicles, but exhausts are definitely modified for vehicles in open-cut (coal) mines.
* diesel only - no spark ignition (ie no petrol/gas vehicles) * muffler moved away from under the body, typically to in front of the radiator, and/or additional shielding fitted This has been the case for decades, from a fire safety perspective. |

You know, all these costs and woes has got me thinking. The old Ford 4.0 SOHC intech six was just about perfect - lots of torque low down (like a diesel), simple, cheap to fix, reliable, good longevity, and could run on whatever poor quality petrol was served. Those old Ford Oz engineers knew what's good!
