Default AU2 instrument cluster oil sensor pin

Does anybody know which pins on an AU2 instrument cluster is for the oil sensor and the data transmit for the trip computer?

I can't make out any of the text, but there's a wiring diagram here: http://fordforums.com.au/wsm/wire/au...html#page00006

Looks like the oil pressure switch is in section G-1, bottom middle.

Thank you very much for your suggestion, however this schematic is for a low series and I think that the low series varies greatly from the high series.

High series is the next one down. G-2.
Looks like it's in the same place, same pin.

Yes, you are quite correct, but these schematics are for AU1 clusters.

AU and AUII cluster schematics are the same.

That cant be correct because the AU2 cluster I have doesnt show oil pressure or trip computer data, yet my AU1 cluster works perfectly in my Fairmont.

It is correct.

The oil 'gauge' in a series 1 is an actual gauge, the oil 'gauge' in a series 2 is not a gauge in a real sense. The gauge in a series 2 will only indicate if there is oil pressure or not.

What makes them different is the sender.

Just so I understand what you are saying here. The oil pressure gauge on a series 2 is not an analogue device, but an idiot light.(I wonder why they installed a gauge?) This still doesnt explain why I am not getting trip computer data to my climate control unit

Yes, that is correct, the 'gauge' on a series II/III is nothing more than an idiot light.

What sort of cluster are you installing? A Fairmont or XR one?

My car is an AU1 Fairmont and I am trying to install a series 2 Fairmont cluster.

From memory, and I don't know why for sure, but I believe it has something to do with the BCMs being different.

I have read somewhere that you can put a series 1 in series 2 but not the other way around. All I do know is many have tried this mod/upgrade and were not able to do it.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed your other question. It has an analogue gauge simply to make the features brochure look complete when they were sold new. There would have been some buyers that would have thought it to be wrong not to have an oil gauge back in the early 00's.

As per the wiring diagrams, the only input for oil pressure comes in the form of a switch (off/on), there's no analogue input, so there's no analogue display. No matter how analogue-ey it looks.

EDIT: From the WSM: http://fordforums.com.au/wsmpub/augx/Part%2015-3.html
"Oil Pressure Gauge:
The gauge position is damped by cluster microprocessor software...

Low Oil Pressure Warning Lamp:
For high series models, the sender is a switch..."

The high/low signal comes from the switch, the cluster converts it into an arbitrary position on a gauge.

I am fairly new to Fords, so I dont purport to be any kind of authority on the matter, but when I pulled out my original AU1 cluster and put in the AU2 one, everything worked well except for the oil gauge and trip computer data. It appears that the trip computer data is generated by the cluster and not the BEM as the AU1 cluster has a trip computer transmit data output pin. There seems to be very little information on the AU2/3 clusters. With regard to the oil gauge, it appears to be a glorified ohm meter that just measures resistance to ground. I dont want to start jumpering pins to work out which one is the oil pin. The cluster I have is in mint condition and I dont want to blow it up for the sake of finding out which pin is the oil sensor pin.

So the solution here is to swap out the oil pressure sensor for an idiot(on/off) light type sensor ?

Couldn't tell you what the solution is, sorry.
